As part of the CIHR business plan submission, the BC SUPPORT Unit committed to providing BC researchers with access to a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS). A CTMS enables management of many aspects of clinical trials including: study start-up timelines, tracking and reporting of protocol information and accrual data, study financial management and billing compliance. Clinical Trials BC officially kicked off the province wide CTMS project in September 2018, welcoming project leads, Alison Orth, Unit Director and Korin Yunker, Provincial CTMS Project Manager. The Provincial CTMS Working Group and Advisory Committee were formed in January and April 2019 respectively with representation from FHA, IHA, PHC, PHSA, VCH, VIHA and UNBC.
The first site deployment under the Provincial CTMS Project, took place in March 2019, with BC Cancer’s Surrey Centre. BC Cancer had previously entered into a separate License Agreement with the preferred CTMS vendor, allowing deployment of the BC Cancer Enterprise CTMS Sysctem in parallel with the early stages of the BC AHSN Enterprise CTMS System.
In June 2019, BC AHSN submitted the provincial level Privacy Impact Assessment to the Health Information Privacy and Security Operations Committee (HIPSOC) for review and approval. A significant project milestone was reached in October 2019, when HIPSOC granted approval for the project to proceed as planned. Next steps include local level privacy and security reviews and execution of the License Agreement with the preferred vendor. We currently anticipate the first site under the BC AHSN License Agreement to deploy in Q1/Q2 2020.
